Workers at Kingston, Ont., Community Counselling Centres join OPSEU

Second union organizing effort sucessful

The Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) welcomed staff at Kingston, Ont., Community Counselling Centres (K3C), after the workers voted in favour of joining the union March 24.

This is the second time a union tried certifying workers at K3C, and OPSEU president Warren (Smokey) Thomas said he was pleased that the organizing drive was successful.

"The employer in this workplace tried hard to block the workers' efforts to unionize, but in the end, and with a strong 'yes' vote, the workers won out,” said Thomas.

K3C is a not-for-profit agency with four offices in Kingston, Ottawa, Belleville, and Whitby. It provides a variety of services which include women's counselling, programs for male survivors, adult protective services and youth and family counselling.
