Workers at Brewers' Distributor in Winnipeg get new contract

Deal includes raises of 10 per cent for part-timers, 4.5 per cent for full-timers

Workers at the Brewers' Distributor warehouse in Winnipeg ratified a new collective agreement June 22.

Brewers' Distributor — a private company — is the largest beer warehousing and distribution network in Western Canada. They are represented by United Food and Commercial Workers Canada (UFCW) Local 832.

Highlights of the new five-year agreement include wage increases totalling up to 10 per cent for seasonal part-time workers and 4.5 per cent for core employees, with wages for the latter reaching more than $30 per hour over the contract's duration. In addition, members will also receive a signing bonus ranging from $500 to $750, said the union.

The new contract also features increases to health and welfare benefits as well as the introduction of a new wellness program for seasonal part-time employees with three or more years of service. The negotiating committee was also able to retain the defined benefit pension plan for core employees, according to UFCW.
