Members at Broadview Nursing Centre in Smith Falls, Ont., ratify new deal

Improved bereavement gained in agreement: Union

United Food and Commercial Workers Canada (UFCW) Local 175 members working at Broadview Nursing Centre in Smiths Falls, Ont., reached a new collective agreement.

The contract covers 59 full- and part-time employees who are part of the Local 175 Health, Office & Professional Employees (HOPE) sector.

Over the three-year term, members will receive an initial wage increase of 1.4 per cent — including retroactive pay for hours worked in April 2017 — plus an additional 1.4 per cent in years two and three of the contract, said the union.

Workers also achieved improved bereavement language that now includes siblings, stepparents and stepchildren. In addition, there are important language improvements regarding harassment and bullying, and the grievance procedure, according to UFCW.
