Workers at Whitehorse Save-On-Foods sign first collective agreement

United Food and Commercial Workers Canada (UFCW) Local 1518 members working at the brand new Save-On-Foods store in Whitehorse, Yukon ratified their first-ever collective agreement Aug. 29.

The new Save-On-Foods location in Whitehorse is the Yukon's newest grocery store. Located beside the Yukon River, the store employs more than 180 UFCW Local 1518 members.

"The agreement is by far the best collective bargaining agreement in the retail food industry in the Yukon," said Patrick Johnson, UFCW Local 1518 executive assistant. "Members were excited with the collective agreement and are happy it was implemented since day one of the store being open."

UFCW Canada Local 1518 represents more than 20,000 members working in a diverse range of industries, including retail food and industrial food processing, community health, seasonal agriculture and professional services.
