Joined for job security, respect: Union

Technical and clerical workers at Subaru of London, Ont., are the newest members of United Food and Commercial Workers Canada (UFCW) Canada, Local 102, after voting to join the union on Dec. 12.

The 17 tech and clerical employees work as mechanics, detailers, service technicians, and administrative assistants for the car dealership. They joined the union to obtain better job security and respect and fairness at work, said the union.

“I would like to congratulate and welcome the new members at Subaru of London, who overcame great adversity in their campaign to join the union,” said Dominic Musitano, UFCW Canada, Local 102 president.

The employees join a number of other UFCW Canada members who work in the automotive industry, including workers at the Park Lane Chevrolet Cadillac in Sarnia, Ont., according to UFCW.

UFCW Canada Local 102 represents more than 5,000 members working in the hotel, hospitality, and service industries, as well as other sectors of the economy.
