Workers at IGA Lambert in Carignan, Que., sign first contract

Wage increase, more sick time, bonuses part of deal: UFCW

United Food and Commercial Workers Canada (UFCW), Local 500 members working at Les Marchés IGA Lambert in Carignan, Que., ratified their first collective agreement on March 15.

“We are very satisfied with the way this first collective bargaining session worked out for the new members IGA Lambert,” said Antonio Filato, UFCW Canada, Local 500 president. 

“This first contract protects high-quality jobs in the retail food sector and reflects the hard work of our outstanding bargaining committee," said Filato.

Two days of productive bargaining garnered improvements for the IGA members including the introduction of seniority, wage increases of six per cent over three years, 40 hours of sick leave for full-time workers, three floater days for all workers, and bonuses for the department, kitchen and pastry shop managers, according to the union.
