NAPE certified to represent workers at Alt Hotel in St. John’s

20 employees work at Canadian-owned hotel: Union

The Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public and Private Employees (NAPE) has been certified by the Labour Relations Board as the bargaining agent for workers at the Alt Hotel in St. John’s.

Workers voted overwhelmingly in favour of having NAPE as their bargaining agent, said the union.

“Our union continues to grow in the private sector. Workers see our union as a champion for their rights, better pay and benefits, improved health and safety standards, and for better overall working conditions,” said Jerry Earle, NAPE president.

There are currently 20 employees working at the hotel. This number will grow in-season and as on-site operations ramp-up. The hotel — featuring 148 rooms in downtown St. John’s — is part of a Canadian-owned chain of hotels.

NAPE now represents workers at three hotels in St. John’s: The Comfort Inn-Airport, The Quality Hotel Harbourview and the Alt Hotel.
