Prince Rupert, B.C. (16 warehouse employees) and Teamsters Canada, Local 31

Renewal agreement: Effective Jan. 1, 2018, to Dec. 31, 2021. Signed on Dec. 21, 2017.
Shift premium: $0.30 per hour for employee holding first-aid certificate recognized under workers’ compensation board regulations who is designated by employer to carry out duties of first-aid attendant, class C. Minimum 4 hours of pay at overtime rate for employee who works on sixth shift. 
Paid holidays: 10 days.  
Vacations with pay: 4% to start, 10 days or 4% after 1 year, 15 days or 6% after 5 years, 20 days or 8% after 10 years, 25 days or 10% after 15 years, 30 days or 12% after 21 years. 
Overtime: Time and one-half for all work after 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week. May be banked, maximum 40 hours per year.
Meal allowance: When employee is required to work more than 2 hours of overtime, employee will be given paid time off (at applicable overtime rate) to eat, except where interruption of work is not practical. 
Medical benefits: Employer pays 100% of premiums (benefits provided are equal to, or better than, benefits provided by Teamsters National Benefit Plan, coverage level A). 
Sick leave: 1/2 day per month, maximum 30 days (employee must be paid for not less than 128 hours per 4-week period to be credited). 
Pension: Employer will contribute $2.65 per hour into Teamsters National Pension Plan. Effective Jan. 1, 2021: $2.80 per hour. 
Bereavement leave: 3 days for death of parent, spouse, brother, sister, child, parent-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, niece, nephew, aunt, uncle, cousin, grandparents, grandchildren, which include spouse’s grandparents and grandchildren. 2 additional days for travel more than 500 kilometres round trip. Time off without pay may be granted to attend funeral. 
Seniority – recall rights: 12 months.  
Probationary period: 45 days and have worked minimum of average of 24 hours per week. 
Discipline: Sunset clause is 24 months.
Safety shoes: $150 per year (previously $125 per year) for safety boots. 
Uniforms/clothing: When employee is required to wear uniform or coveralls as condition of continued employment, uniform or coveralls will be furnished and maintained by employer. If requested by employee, employer will supply 2 pairs of coveralls.
Sample rates of hourly pay (current, after increase):
Container examination facility/warehouse operator: $20.43 rising 3 steps to $21.63
Yard-tractor operator: $23.45 rising 3 steps to $23.65
Charge-hand: $26.64 rising 3 steps to $27.84 
New hires: $2 per hour less than above rates (will be increased by $1 after 12 months; after 18 months: another $0.50 increase; at 24 months: full-rate.
Editor’s notes: Medical examinations: When employee is required by employer to take medical examination outside of regular hours, employer will pay maximum 2 hours’ pay at straight time. Industry fund: Employer will contribute $0.05 per hour per employee, maximum of 168 hours per month, into Teamsters Local No. 3 1 Union/Industry Advancement Fund.
