Legion Village workers in Cobourg, Ont. sign contract

Signing bonus of $200 part of new deal: UFCW

Health-care workers at Legion Village in Cobourg, Ont., achieved a new agreement on May 23.

Bargaining took place through the Hospital Labour Disputes Arbitration Act (HLDAA) and members ratified the awarded contract at a meeting, said the United Food and Commercial Workers Canada (UFCW).

Members will receive increases over the three-year term and a signing bonus of $200 for part-time workers. As well, the weekend-shift premium improves to $0.25 per hour. Full-time employees benefit from improvements to their floater holidays and pension and the contract includes a new full-time position, said the union.

Vacation entitlement now provides up to five weeks off with pay after 15 years of service with the employer. Other important improvements address health and safety and provide enhanced union security and probation language, said UFCW.

The agreement covers 35 part-time and 14 full-time health care employees at the supportive housing facility for seniors and adults.
