Contract negotiations fall apart over pension plan discussions

Thunder Bay, Ont. Bombardier workers are on strike after negotiations for a new contract have failed, their union says.

UPDATE: Bombardier tentative agreement reached in Thunder Bay, Ont.

“Negotiations fell apart over demands for cuts to the pension plan, particularly for new workers,” the Canadian Auto Workers (CAW) union said in a press release.

The 700 workers have been without a contract since May 31.

The Thunder Bay plant manufactures bi-level rail cars, street cars and subway cars, including those contracted by the City of Toronto for its subway and light rail services.
