GO Transit workers ratify tentative agreement

Transit workers will receive 6.3 per cent raise over three years

Ontario’s 1,500 GO Transit workers have ratified their tentative agreement with management company, Metrolinx.

Metrolinx and Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 1587 reached the agreement on Oct. 23, narrowly avoiding a midnight strike deadline.

“Metrolinx and GO Transit thank customers and the public for their patience during the labour negotiation process,” reads a message on Metrolinx’s website.

The new three-year deal contains wage increases of two per cent in each of the first two years, and 2.3 per cent in the third.

The deal covers GO Transit’s technicians, station attendants, clerical staff and service personnel.

The union had said a proposed wage freeze, working conditions and benefits were among the issues separating the parties during negotiations.

There has never been a strike in GO’s 40-year history.
