CN Rail, union reach tentative deal

First time parties reach agreement before expiration of previous contract

(Reuters) — Canadian National Railway Co. and Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) have reached a tentative agreement on labour contracts before the expiry of the current contract.

Details were not available, as the agreement needs to be ratified by TCRC members, a process expected to take about 60 days.

"It's the first time we have reached a tentative agreement with CN before the expiration of the old contract," Rex Beatty, president of the TCRC, said in a statement.

The contract covers about 1,800 CN locomotive engineers in Canada.

“CN is very pleased to have reached this settlement with TCRC engineers in advance of the expiration of the current labour contract ," said Keith Creel, CN executive vice-president and chief operating officer. "This is a clear indication of the focus that the leadership of the TCRC and our team brought to the table to resolve issues of mutual interest."
