New agreements for more than 1,000 Nav Canada workers

Members from 2 unions receive annual wage increases of 2.75 and 3 per cent

An arbitrator has issued his decision on outstanding issues for about 400 workers at Nav Canada, the country’s private sector civil air navigation services provider.

The decision grants workers a 2.75 per cent wage increase each May 1. The two-year collective agreement for the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada members is retroactive to May 1, 2011, and expires April 30, 2013.

In September 2011, both parties concluded negotiations on several issues and agreed to refer outstanding issues to binding arbitration.

The agreement covers the organization’s engineering, computer service, physical science, purchasing, economic and social science workers.

In December 2011, 680 technicians at Nav Canada ratified a two-year agreement with the company. The planning, installation and technology support workers will receive a three per cent wage increase each year of the collective agreement, beginning on Jan. 1, 2012.

The technicians are members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
