TWU members to vote on potential merger with United Steelworkers

Union requires two-thirds support from members to move forward

The Telecommunications Workers Union’s (TWU) national executive council voted on Nov. 21 in favour of merging with the United Steelworkers (USW). It will seek the support of the membership in order to establish a merger process.

The TWU will hold a referendum by mail-in ballot, which will be mailed out to members by Jan. 31, 2013, and require votes returned by Feb. 28, 2013.

The union will need at least two-thirds of the members to vote in favour of the merger in order to begin negotiations with the USW.
