Air North flight attendants in Yukon ask to be unionized

Decision from Canadian Industrial Relations Board could come in a few months

Flight attendants working for Air North in Yukon want to be unionized and are asking the Yukon Employees Union (YEU) to represent them.

The 35 flight attendants have applied to the Canadian Industrial Relations Board and it could take a month or two before the board makes a decision, according to YEU president Steve Gieck.

“They love working for Air North,” Gieck told the CBC. “They love their jobs and they are proud of what they do."

Gieck said he doesn’t know what sparked the flight attendants’ decision but he said they chose YEU because of its local presence. Flight attendants with Air Canada are represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees, which doesn’t have a Yukon office. WestJet flight attendants are not unionized.
