OSSTF delegates select new union leaders

Teachers from across Ontario to represent union

Delegates of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) have elected new leaders to represent the union. The announcement came on March 10 at the union’s annual meeting in Toronto.

Here’s a look at the new leadership:

Paul Elliott, president: Elliott, a teacher from Fort Frances High School in Fort Frances, Ont., was first elected to the provincial executive in 2005 as executive officer and then as vice-president in 2007, 2009 and 2011.

Harvey Bischof, vice-president: Bischof is a Durham Region teacher who was first elected to the provincial executive in 2007 as executive officer and then as vice-president in 2011.

Cindy Dubué, vice-president: Dubué is an educational assistant from the Ottawa-Carleton area who was first elected as executive officer in 2011

Jo Dean, executive officer: Dean is a teacher from Greater Essex.

Sue Doughty-Smith, executive officer: Doughty-Smith is an educational assistant from Thunder Bay, Ont.

Rob Gascho, executive officer: Gascho is a teacher from Waterloo, Ont.

Earl Burt, treasurer: Burt comes from the Toronto Teacher Bargaining Unit Executive, serving another term this year as treasurer.

The new positions will take effect July 1, 2013.
