Cambridge Steelworkers ratify deal with Tenneco Automotive

Agreement includes improvements to wages, pension

United Steelworkers (USW) members at the Tenneco Automotive in Cambridge, Ont., ratified a three-year collective agreement with the manufacturing plant.

The new contract — ratified by members of USW Local 2894 — will run until February 2018. The union represents approximately 430 employees at the Tenneco plant. Workers manufacture vehicle exhaust systems and emissions control products.

According to the union, the new deal includes wage and pension increases in each year of the contract.

“We can also be proud that we succeeded in defending and improving our defined-benefit pension plan,” said USW Local 2894 president Tony Koski.

Tenneco Automotive proposed the creation of a two-tier pension system, Koski said.

The new deal, the union said, includes improvements to the benefit plan as well as to the contract language.
