Agreement reached with 7,400 correctional officers

Previous contract expired 42 months ago: Union

The Union of Canadian Correctional Officers (UCCO) reached an agreement in principle with the Treasury Board Nov. 16.

"The government finally recognizes the dangerous and unique work of correctional officers in the Canadian public service. Through patience, solidarity and mobilization from coast to coast, we have achieved significant gains for those who work on a daily basis behind the walls of the institutions across the country", said Jason Godin, national president of UCCO.

The deal was agreed to 42 months after the expiry of the last collective agreement, said the union, and the tentative agreement will be presented to members and put to a vote across Canada in the coming weeks.

UCCO represents correctional officers in 49 federal institutions.
