Strike ends at St. Francis Xavier University

Faculty, staff voted 96 per cent in favour of a new deal

Students at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, N.S., headed back to class Feb. 18 after a three-week strike ended on Feb. 16.

Faculty and support staff walked off the job on Jan. 28 after being without a contract for eight months.

About 400 union members voted 96 per cent in favour of a tentative agreement, St. FX Association of University Teachers (StFXAUT) president Peter McInnis told CTV News.

As part of the tentative deal, to make up for students’ lost classes, a week of classes will be added onto the end of the semester and the exam period will be condensed.
