Unifor reaches deal with Navistar

Tentative agreement reached after weeks-long strike

After more than two weeks on strike, workers at Navistar Canada Inc. reached a tentative agreement with the company.

Employees, represented by Unifor Local 504, will vote on the deal on Oct. 16.

“These workers, young and old, have stood together for a better deal,” said Dave Reston, president of Unifor Local 504. “Our bargaining team is recommending that this new contract be ratified.”

The 30 employees — working at Navistar’s parts distribution centre — went on strike Sept. 29.

The labour action came after the union’s decision in 2012 to extend its collective agreement by 18 months in an effort to provide stability as the company relocated from Burlington to its current location in Hannon, Ont.
