New deal ends two week-long strike
Employees from WoodGreen Community Services recently ratified a new collective agreement, ending a two week strike.
Workers voted 81 per cent in favour of the new three year deal.
More than 500 employees walked off the job on Oct. 9 when negotiations between the Ontario-based employer and Workers United Local 154 broke down.
The new agreement will see a 4.5 per cent wage increase over the next three years. Additionally, the number of hours before personal support workers become eligible for benefits will be reduced.
“We’re pleased that we have been able to come to an agreement and return to work so that we can continue serving our clients in the community,” said Tammy Harnett, a member of the union’s bargaining team.
