UFCW reaches tentative agreement with Loblaws

28,000 grocery workers affected by deal

UFCW Canada local unions 1000A, 175 and 633 reached a tentative agreement with Loblaws Supermarkets Ltd.

The deal came on June 1 after seven straight days of talks, including a weekend of “marathon” negotiations, the union said.

Negotiations began in February 2015. The parties were assisted in negotiations by a provincial conciliation officer.

The agreement affects 28,000 grocery workers across Ontario at Loblaws Great Food and Superstores, Zehrs Great Food and Superstores, Zehrs, and Fortinos.

UFCW local unions’ negotiating committees are unanimously recommending the tentative agreement to their members. Ratification meetings are being scheduled across the province.

According to the union, details of the settlement will not be publicly released until voting is concluded.
