Strike avoided at Sisley Honda in Thornhill, Ont.

Pension plan, grievance procedure new parts of worker's contract: Union.

The 55 newest members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) Local Lodge 235 ratified their first collective agreement with Sisley Honda on July 11, which provides significant wage increases over the life of the contract.

“If we hadn’t ratified this deal last night, we would have been on the street with picket signs this morning,” said Jim Snider, IAM District Lodge 78 business representative. “Wages were all over the map and this agreement brings them into line.”

Other agreement highlights include:

  • Inclusion in the IAM pension plan.
  • Introduction of the Honda Training Program Bonus which amounts to increases of $1 to $2 per hour depending upon qualifications in addition to regular hourly wages.
  • Introduction of a grievance procedure.

The 55 members include mechanics, service technicians, service advisors, service cashiers, hostesses, detailers, carwashers, valets, lube technicians and custodians.

The IAM represents more than 1500 members employed in the automotive sector across Canada.
