46 employees become part of IAM
Members of the Canadian Union of Labour Representatives — employed by the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) — voted to join the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) on March 7.
“We are delighted that the 46 Canadian Labour Congress staff representatives have decided to join a progressive international union, the IAM,” said Stan Pickthall, IAM Canadian general vice president. “The IAM prides itself on being a grassroots organization that listens to its members and works with them on issues at all levels of our movement.”
As an organization, the IAM is active on many levels and is involved in Representation of members, both at the bargaining table and in the workplace, a Community Service and Political Action and Organizing the unorganized workers across Canada.
Over the past two years, the IAM has been successful bringing in labour activists across Canada who are seeking representation, including United Food and Commercial Workers Canada (UFCW) national reps, Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union (NSGEU) provincial reps, Elementary Teachers of Toronto (ETT) office staff, and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), Local 1687.
