Trillium hospital nurses vote to join union

Pending the merging of hospitals, nurses seek representation

Registered nurses at Trillium Health Centre in Mississauga are joining the Ontario Nurses’ Association (ONA).

In a vote held last week, the nurses chose “overwhelmingly” to join the ONA, which represents over 55,000 registered nurses in Ontario hospitals, long-term care facilities, public health, the community, industry and clinics.

"ONA prides itself on being the leading voice of and an advocate for registered nurses and allied health professionals in Ontario," said ONA president Linda Haslam-Stroud. “We welcome our new members from Trillium Health Centre and look forward to providing excellent service to them."

Earlier in the month, Trillium Health Centre and Credit Valley Hospital announced a plan to merge by April 2012. The merge is awaiting approval by the Local Health Integration Network, which oversees local healthcare planning and spending for the Ontario government.
