Ottawa reaches tentative deal with professional union

Council to vote on deal after union ratification

The City of Ottawa has reached a tentative agreement with the union representing its1,760 professional employees, city councilors were informed on June 6.

The Civic Institute of Professional Personnel (CIPP) -- the union representing the workers -- will take the agreement to its members  for a vote in “the coming weeks,” city councilor Rick O'Connor told city council in a memo.

If the union ratifies the agreement, city council will then vote on the agreement.

The two parties have been without a contract since Dec. 31, 2011.

City council will vote on June 16 on the tentative agreement it reached with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 503, which represents about 6,300 inside and outside workers. The agreement, which has already been ratified with CUPE, contains wage increases of 1.91 per cent in 2012 and 2013.
