5-month strike at Porter over

Customer service, fueling workers returning after ratifying collective agreement

Porter Airlines, a Toronto-based carrier that flies out of the city's downtown island airport, has reached a deal with 22 customer service and fueling workers.

The workers, represented by the Canadian Office and Professional Employees (COPE) union, have been on strike since Jan. 10.

“The strike lasted longer than anyone would have expected, but we look forward to having back everyone involved now that a deal is done,” said Robert Deluce, president and CEO of Porter.

The collective agreement was ratified in the evening on June 24, with 85 per cent of voting members approving the deal.

COPE Local 343 and Porter have withdrawn all litigation between them, the union said, adding its members were looking forward to returning to their jobs for the first time in more than five months.
