Unifor reaches deal with Brinks workers

Tentative contract comes ahead of strike deadline

Unifor negotiated a tentative collective agreement with Brinks Canada in Ottawa just ahead of a legal strike date.

The agreement — reached in the evening on Sept. 29 — came after a day of mediation between Unifor Local 4266 and Brinks.

The deal was made ahead of the Oct. 1 strike or lockout date. The union had a 99 per cent strike mandate from its 130 members.

Details of the new collective agreement are set to be released following the ratification vote on Oct. 5. Unifor Local 4266 is recommending its members approve the deal.

“This deal came after some long hours of talks with the company, but with the members’ support for the bargaining team we were able to get a deal without a strike,” said Andre Desjardins, president of Unifor Local 4266.

Unifor represents more than 2,000 workers in the armoured car industry.
