CN Rail, Teamsters reach multiple agreements

New deals cover conductors, rail traffic controllers

Canadian National Railway (CN) and the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference renewed two of their collective agreements.

The first agreement — concerning rail traffic controllers — was renewed on March 3, 2015. The second agreement — covering conductors and locomotive engineers — was renewed on March 4, 2015.

The new deal covering rail traffic controllers was reached with assistance from the Labour Program’s Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS). The agreement, which will affect about 185 employees, expired on Dec. 31, 2014.

The agreement concerning approximately 93 locomotive engineers and conductors working on the Northern Quebec Internal Short Line was reached through direct negotiations.

The collective agreement for locomotive engineers and conductors will run until Dec. 31, 2018.

CN — the largest railway company in Canada — transports approximately $250 billion worth of goods each year.
