CUPE, Village of Nakusp, B.C., ratify new collective agreement

Wages increase in each of five years of deal: Union

Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) workers and the Village of Nakusp, B.C., ratified a new five-year agreement on Dec. 11 after more than 28 months of negotiations, said the union.

Sixteen of 23 eligible voters attended the ratification meeting and 75 per cent of members voted in favour of the tentative agreement, according to CUPE.

“This has been a long and challenging round of negotiations,” said Andy Cruden, CUPE, Local 2450 president. “However, we are pleased to finally have a new agreement in place and we are now prepared to focus our attention on rebuilding our working relationship with the village.”

The agreement runs from Aug. 1, 2016, to July 31, 2020, and it includes wage increases of 1.5 per cent, 1.5 per cent, 1.75 per cent, two per cent and two per cent in each year of the agreement, said the union.

CUPE 2450 represents about 23 members who provide community services to residents and businesses in Nakusp.
