Workers agree to lump sum payments in first two years

About 450 workers at Canfor Pulp in Prince George, B.C., have ratified a new five-year agreement with the company, according to the union representing the workers.

Members voted 71 per cent in favour of accepting the offer, the union said.

The workers will receive the following economic increase, according to the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers (CEP) union, Locals 603 and 1133:

  • a lump sum of $3,750 in the first two years of the agreement;
  • a wage increase of two per cent in the third year;
  • a wage increase of 2.5 per cent in the fourth year;
  • a wage increase of three per cent in the third year.

“The deal establishes a pattern for the industry with increases in extended health benefits,” the union said in a statement.

The Vancouver-based pulp and paper producer was created several years ago when it was made a separate business from pulp and paper giant Canfor Corp.
