The University of Victoria has reached a tentative two-year deal with 850 employees who are members of the Professional Employees Union (PEA), but talks with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) are ongoing.
UVic’s deal with PEA, which affects 850 administrative and academic workers at the university, includes a wage increase of two per cent for all members retroactive to July 1, 2012, and an additional two per cent effective July 1, 2013. Ratification is expected in the coming weeks, according to a PEA press release. The previous contract expired on June 30, 2012.
Meanwhile, the 1,500 CUPE members who work at the university as childcare, foodservice and maintenance workers, have been without a contract since 2010. The union has picketed at the university several times since September.
Talks between UVic and CUPE are continuing this week.
