Employees at a Winnipeg Tim Hortons restaurant will be represented by Workers United Canada Council following a decision from the Manitoba Labour Relations Board.
The parties will soon begin negotiating their first collective agreement. Thirty-five employees will be affected.
The labour board issued an order granting a discretionary certification to the union after management at the Tim Hortons franchise admitted to engaging in violations against workers’ rights to unionize.
Violations included threatening to close down any restaurant locations that unionized and firing a worker who was in discussions with union organizers.
The labour board ordered the employee be reinstated and awarded her $1,500 in damages.
