Calgary (290 emergency officers) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 254

Renewal agreement: Effective Jan. 1, 2014, to Jan. 1, 2018.

Wage adjustments:
Effective Dec. 29, 2014: 3.2%
Effective Dec. 28, 2015: 3.4%
Effective Dec. 26, 2016: 4%

Shift premium: $1 per hour when employee’s shift starts after 11:30 a.m.

Paid holidays: 12 days plus one-half day on the employee’s last scheduled working day preceding Christmas Day. Double time for all hours worked on a named holiday.

Vacations with pay: 2 weeks after 1 year of service, 3 weeks after 2 years, 4 weeks after 8 years, 5 weeks after 17 years, 6 weeks after 25 years, 7 weeks after 30 years. Upon 3-week entitlement, employees may request to save and carry forward 1 week per year, up to 6 weeks.

Overtime: Double time for all hours worked in excess of 40 per week. Time off may be taken in lieu of monetary compensation, up to 160 hours.

Bereavement leave: 7 paid days for the death of an employee’s immediate family member, defined as spouse (common-law or same gender), parent, step parent, guardian, brother, step brother, sister, stepsister, child, stepchild, foster child or ward, grandparents, stepgrandparents, grandchild or stepgrandchild.

Seniority – recall rights: 1 year.

Call-in pay: No less than 2 hours’ pay at double time when an employee is called out to work.

Probationary period: 6 months.

Discipline: Sunset clause is 1 year.

Uniforms/clothing: Initial issue: 4 uniform shirts (long or short-sleeved), 3 pairs of uniform pants, 1 tie, 1 belt, 12 pairs of socks or pantyhose, 1 sweater, 2 pairs of shoes or boots (or 1 pair of each), 1 tie clip, 4 T-shirts. Annual issue: 3 uniform shirts, either long or short-sleeved, 3 pairs of uniform pants or skirts, 1 belt as required, 6 pairs of socks of 12 pairs of pantyhose, 1 pair of shoes or boots, sweater as required, 4 T-shirts.

Editor’s notes: Long-service pay: $10 per month after 10 years of service, $15 per month after 15 years, $20 per month after 20 years, $25 per month after 25 years.
