Vaughan, Ont. (Locomotive engineers and conductors) and the Labourers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA) Local 183

Renewal agreement: Effective Aug. 1, 2014, to July 31, 2018. Signed on April 23, 2015.

Wage adjustments:

Effective Aug. 1, 2015: 2%
Effective Aug. 1, 2016: 2%
Effective Aug. 1, 2017: 2%

Paid holidays:
9 days. Time and one-half for all hours worked on a statutory holiday.

Vacations with pay:
2 weeks after 1 year and 3 weeks after 5 years.  

Overtime:
Time and one-half for all hours worked beyond 40 hours per week and all hours worked on regularly assigned rest days.

Meal allowance
: $30 when employees work at different location.

Life insurance:
Employer contributes $225 per month to the Labourers’ International Union of North America, Local 183 Members Industrial Benefit Trust Fund for the purchase of life insurance, major medical, dental and similar benefits (previously $220).

Pension:
Employer contributes 50¢per regular hour to a maximum of 40 hours per week into the Central and Eastern Canada Laborers’ Pension Fund.

Bereavement leave:
3 days for employee’s father, mother, spouse, son, daughter, brother, sister, father-in-law, mother-in-law, grandparent or grandchild.

Seniority – recall rights:
1 year.

Call-in pay:
Time and one-half for all hours worked with a minimum guarantee of 4 hours’ pay.

Probationary period:
120 consecutive worked days.

Safety shoes:
$175 per year for safety boots that comply with federal regulations for safety as well as those set forth by the employer.

Uniforms/clothing:
Employer provides hard hats, safety glasses, hi-vis vests and gloves each year. Rain suits provided every 2 years.

Sample rates of pay (current, after 2% increase):

Shunter: $14.24 rising in 4 steps to $19.85
Vehicle maintenance: $19.79 rising in 2 steps to $24.83

: Staff meetings: Employees required to attend a staff meeting, in-service or a committee meeting during working hours will be compensated the regular hourly rate for time spent in attendance.  Personal day: 1 personal day per year. Personal days cannot be accumulated from year to year. Technological change: The employer will notify the union 120 days before the introduction of any technological change of work methods which may adversely affect the wages or working conditions of employees.
