Calgary (Residence employees) and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 8

Renewal agreement: Effective May 1, 2014, to April 30, 2017.

Shift premium: $1.25 per hour for afternoon shift (previously 75¢). $1.50 per hour for night shift (previously $1). $1.25 for all hours worked between 11:00 p.m. Friday to 8:00 a.m. Monday. 

Paid holidays: 11 days.

Vacations with pay: 1 day per month to a maximum of 10 to start, 2 weeks or 4% after 1 year, 3 weeks or 6% after 3 years, 4 weeks or 8% after 8 years. 

Overtime: Time and one-half for hours worked over 7.5 hours a day or 75 hours bi-weekly (excluding meal breaks). Time and one-half for all hours worked if called in within 8 hours of regular shift ending. Time and one-half for working on holiday.

Medical benefits: Unlimited for expenses incurred in Canada. $20,000 per person per year for expenses outside Canada. No deductible for hospital or out-of-country emergency expenses, but $15 per person or per family will apply to other eligible expenses. 100% reimbursement for out-of-country emergency expenses, 80% after deductible for all other eligible expenses.
 
Dental: 100% reimbursement for basic dental services including maintenance check-ups, fillings, X-rays, oral surgery, endodontics, periodontics, denture repairs. 

Paramedical: $7.50 cap on dispensing fee per prescription. $20 per visit, up to $100 per year for a clinical psychologist. $4 per visit up to $100 per year for a naturopath. $100 per person or $100 per family per year for private duty nurse. 

Sick leave: One shift of regular hours worked earned for every 150 hours worked up to a maximum of 225 hours. Doctor’s note required after 2 days’ absence.

Life insurance: $20,000 until termination of employment, retirement or age 65, whichever comes first (previously $10,000).
Bereavement leave: 5 days with pay for death of parents, spouse (including common-law or same-sex spouse), children, stepchildren, siblings, or grandchildren. 3 days with pay for death of grandparents, mother-in-law, father-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, or legal guardian. 2 unpaid days for travel.

Seniority – recall rights: 1 year.

Probationary period: 450 hours worked (previously 488). 

Discipline: Sunset clause is 2 years, providing no other discipline action has been taken against employee in that time.

Receptionist: $14.72
Senior receptionist: $16.22
Housekeeping, laundry, dietary/dishwasher, janitor: $14.72
Cook: $22.41
Recreation aide: $19.77
Bus driver: $18.44
Maintenance: $18.58 

Editor’s notes: Personal leave: 6 unpaid weeks. Educational leave: Applied for 1 month in advance and must indicate date of return. Employee may work on temporary basis during this time. Maternity leave: 1 unpaid year. Adoption leave: 1 unpaid year. Compassionate care leave: 6 unpaid weeks to care for immediate family member who is dying or at risk of death within 6 months.
