CMC Electronics workers in Saint-Laurent, Que., who are members of Unifor, Local 2889, ended a two-week strike on June 14 over a defined benefit pension plan.
“Our members have a lot to be proud of,” said Renaud Gagné, Unifor Quebec director. “Not only did they succeed in maintaining the defined benefit pension plan for both current and future employees, but they also obtained other gains.”
The union was able to maintain the plan for all workers, with the employer backing off on its demand to impose an inadequate one said the union.
In addition to resolving the main issue involving the pension plan, the union negotiated a three-year contract with wage increases of 5.75 per cent and the maintenance of health benefits paid for by the employer, according to Unifor.
