MONTREAL (CP) — A Quebec union composed almost exclusively of Indigenous workers has ratified its first contract.

The collective bargaining agreement includes an additional paid holiday for National Indigenous Peoples Day, June 21, as well as the possibility of unpaid time off for traditional hunting activities.

The union has about 20 members who work at the Hotel Quality Inn in Sept-Iles on Quebec's North Shore.

It is part of the Syndicat des Metallos, which is affiliated with the Quebec Federation of Labour.

Workers will receive at least $15 an hour, with some previously earning $12 or $13.50 an hour.

The union received its accreditation last December.
