Boosts to wages, more paid-leave time part of deal: Unifor

Unifor, Local 324 members ratified their first contract on Sept.27 with Weechi-it-te-win Family Services in Fort Frances, Ont. 

The new four-year contract covers about 30 workers who provide services at the Indigenous-based child welfare agency.

“As indicated by the strong 88 per cent ratification vote, many of these new members recognize the major improvements and security they will enjoy with Unifor and their new contract,” said George Smith, Unifor, Local 324 president.

The new agreement includes 7.25 per cent in wage increases over the life of the contract, increased employer pension contributions, strong seniority language, 14 annual statutory holidays, 15 annual sick days, expanded paid-leave, a generous retirement allowance and improved benefit coverage. The contract also contains an option to utilize First Nations elders in a mediation role for grievances, said the union.
