Members of Unifor, Local 6000 ratified an agreement on Sept. 20, ending the Oldcastle BE strike that began on July 6.

“We have recommended this agreement that addresses a number of important that our members face at work,” said Jean-Yves Fillion, Unifor national representative.

The workers voted 65 per cent in favour of the agreement, said the union.

Highlights of the contract include a four-year deal with a possible fifth year on the condition of an investment of $2.7 million made by the employer before the end of the fourth year, wage increases of 0.4 per cent in the first year and the equivalent of 1.6 per cent in group insurance, and two per cent per year for the second, third and fourth years.

Finally, the deal includes a 2.25 per cent increase in the event of a fifth year and agreements on irritants such as overlap breaks and work schedules, said the union.

The parties also agreed to use the mediation services of the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Solidarity to improve the state of labour relations within the company, said Unifor.
