Workers ratify agreement with UTAS in Montreal

Employer asked for 20 per cent cost ‘reduction’: IAM

Members of International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), Local 712 ratified a new collective agreement on Oct. 3 with UTAS in Montreal.

The three-year agreement provides wage increases of 2.25 per cent in year one and 2.25 per cent in year two and 2.5 per cent in year three, said the union.

Other agreement highlights include workers with more than 12 months of service receive a signing bonus of $2,000 while those with less than 12 months of service receive a signing bonus of $500 upon ratification of the agreement and the introduction of a night-shift with a bonus of $2 per hour, said IAM.

“We made no concessions while getting interesting gains for all of our members, despite the fact that Airbus has asked for a 20 per cent costs reduction,” said Eric Rancourt, IAM district 11 business representative.

The 23 members manufacture engine parts for the A220/100 and A-220/300. The IAM is the largest union in the Canadian aerospace sector, said the union.
