Renewal agreement: Effective Jan. 1, 2018, to Dec. 31, 2020. Signed on April 27, 2018.
Shift premium: 10% for firefighter (first-class or lower rank) who instructs in defibrillation, trench rescue, confined space rescue, hazmat. 110% for platoon instructors when delivering training.
Paid holidays: 12 days, plus 1 floating day. 
Vacations with pay: 1 day per month, maximum 2 weeks after 6 months; 2 weeks after 1 year; 3 weeks after 3 years; 1 additional day for each year of service after 5 years, maximum 4 weeks; 1 additional day for each 2 years of service after 20 years, maximum 5 weeks; 1 additional day for each 1 years of service after 25 years, maximum 6 weeks; 7 weeks after 30 years. 
Overtime: Time and one-half for any employee called-in for emergency duty on normal day-off, minimum 3 hours. May be banked, maximum 126 straight-time hours. 
Medical benefits: Employer pays 100% of premiums for Ontario Health Insurance Plan. 
Dental: Employer pays 100% of premiums. Orthodontic: $1,500 maximum per child per year, $3,000 lifetime maximum per adult. Major restorative: 50% reimbursement, maximum $1,500 per person per year.
Vision: Employer pays 100% of premiums. $450 every 2 years (previously $400 every 2 years); can be used for eye exams effective Jan. 1, 2019. 50% towards cost of laser-eye surgery, maximum $1,500. 
Paramedical: Maximum $2,500 per year for psychologist’s services. $50 per visit for all other services, excluding psychological services.
Sick leave: 1 1/2 days per month, after 6 months’ probationary period. 
LTD: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of maximum $8,000.
Life insurance: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of maximum $300,000.
Pension: Employees will become members of Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System Plan.
Bereavement leave: 5 days or 2 24-hour shifts for death in immediate family (husband, wife, child, foster-child, mother, father, stepmother, stepfather, sister, brother, mother-in-law, father-in-law, grandparent, common-law spouse, (including spouse’s immediate family)).
Probationary period: 12 months. 
Discipline: Sunset clause is 2 years, except for repetition of major offence within 48 months.
Uniforms/clothing: Employer will provide full-uniform package to firefighters, mechanics, communications operators, probationary fire-prevention inspectors, fire-protection technologists. Uniformed employees will be paid cleaning allowance of maximum $150 per year.

Editor’s notes: Recognition pay: 3% after 8 years of service; 6% after 17 years of service; 9% after 23 years of service. Paid on each cheque. Attending court: Employees who are required to attend court in relation to duties as member of VFRS — during time that they would otherwise have been off-duty — will receive overtime pay at time and one-half for actual time spent, minimum of 4 hours. Standby pay: $115 per 7-day period of standby duty for fire-prevention inspectors scheduled to standby for after-hours call-in. Smoking-cessation drugs: Maximum $500 lifetime. Travel outside of Vaughan: Any employee attending assigned courses outside City of Vaughan will be paid expense allowance: $15 per day to cover out-of-pocket expenses, plus mileage for two or more days overnight; $15 per day, plus mileage for daytime courses no overnight; mileage at corporate rate.
