Multiprovince (4 watchkeepers, cooks) and the Seafarers’ International Union of Canada (SIU)

Renewal agreement: Effective May 1, 2017, to April 30, 2022. Signed on May 2, 2017.
Paid holidays: 9 days. 
Vacations with pay: 6% on each paycheque. 
Overtime: Time and one-half for all hours worked in excess of 84 hours per week will be considered extra overtime. Maximum 16 hours per 24-hour period. 
Medical benefits: Employer will remit required premiums in order to provide benefit coverage for all permanent full-time employees.
Pension: Employees will, as condition of employment, maintain membership in NACC Shipping Canada defined contribution plan. Employer will contribute 7% of basic hourly rate for hours worked, maximum 12 per day. Employee will contribute amount equal to what employer contributes. 
Bereavement leave: 10 days for death in immediate family (spouse, children, parents). 5 days for death of brother, sister, parents-in-law, grandparents, grandchildren. Employer will pay transportation costs from vessel to employee’s home under these circumstances.
Seniority – recall rights: Period equal to seniority or 24 months, whichever is less. 
Probationary period: 120 days working on vessel. 
Discipline: Sunset clause is 24 months.
Severance: Severance will be paid to employees as set out in Canada Labour Code.
Safety shoes: $150 per year, after 1 year of service. 
Uniforms/clothing: Employer will supply 1 pair of coveralls to each new employee when employee first goes to work on vessel and thereafter 2 additional pairs of coveralls during first 12 months of employment. Subsequently, coveralls are replaced as needed, maximum 3 pairs of coveralls per year, 1 of which will be insulated if ship is trading in Canada. Employee will have option of selecting either insulated pair of coveralls or winter parka.
Mileage: $0.46 per kilometre.
Sample rates of hourly pay (current, after 6.1% increase):
GP watchkeeper: $30.29 rising 4 steps to $32.15
GP cook: $32.87 rising 4 steps to $34.88
Editor’s notes: Union contributions: Employer will contribute $6,000 per year to union hiring hall on March 15 each year. Transportation costs: Each employee will be eligible for allowance of maximum $550 per trip for travel to or from vessel to cover cost of airfare, excess baggage, ground transportation or mileage from home to ship and from ship to home. Effective March 1, 2019: $555. Effective March 1, 2021: $560. $18 per meal (exclusive of taxes) maximum and $110 per night (exclusive of taxes) maximum for hotel stays. Family visitation: Employee may, while vessel is in port, bring spouse and family aboard to visit, except for children younger than 12.
