Unifor, Local 4268 reached a tentative agreement with Campeau Bus Lines on Feb. 14.  If accepted by the membership strike action will be averted, said the union.

The union committee, representing more than 200 school drivers in Whitby, Ajax, Oshawa, Clarington, Bowmanville, Peterborough, Orono, Cobourg, Port Hope, Brighton and the Kawartha region, all in Ontario, have been bargaining since October 2018 for a first collective agreement, according to Unifor.

“We believe this deal will incorporate a payment model that reflects the work our members do and include some new standards to be recognized,” said Debbie Montgomery, Local president.

The union bargaining committee will be unanimously recommending acceptance of this tentative agreement. Details of the agreement will not be released until the agreement is presented to members for ratification, said the union.

Unifor is Canada’s largest union in the private sector, representing 315,000 workers in every major area of the economy, including 2,900 school bus drivers.
