Community-care workers in St-Malo, Man., ratify new contract

United Food and Commercial Workers union (UFCW) Canada, Local 832 members working at EPIC de St-Malo/SMILE of St-Malo (Day Program) ratified a new collective agreement on April 30.

EPIC de St-Malo/SMILE of St-Malo is a non-profit organization that runs a day program that offers meaningful work to individuals with intellectual disabilities.

UFCW 832 members work with the supported individuals as they pack retail goods, work in the woodshop and sort recycling.

Some of the gains in the new contract include wage gains of five per cent over the term of the contract, gains to dental benefits, shift premiums and employer contributions to employee RRSPs and additional floater and sick days, said the union.

The St-Malo community is located about 70 kilometres south of Winnipeg.
