Provincewide, British Columbia (1,240 sheet-metal workers) and the Sheet Metal Workers’ International Association (SMART)

Renewal agreement: Effective May 1, 2017, to April 30, 2019. Signed on Aug. 29, 2017. 
Shift premium: $5.94 per hour (previously $5.83 per hour) for journeyman sheet-metal worker designated as foreman. One-half hour for shifts other that regular up to midnight. One hour for graveyard shift that crosses after midnight. 10% when on industrial projects, employees work underground.
Paid holidays: 12 days, plus 2 additional holidays. 
Vacations with pay: 3 weeks plus 12% (6% for vacations; 6% for statutory holidays). 
Overtime: Time and one-half for all work after 8 hours per day or on Saturday. Double time after 2 hours of overtime or on Sunday, statutory holiday. 
Meal allowance: Employer will supply meal after 2 hours of overtime if 4 hours of overtime are worked and each subsequent 4 hours. 
Medical benefits: Employer will pay $3.33 per hour (previously $2.97 per hour) to sheet metal workers health benefit fund. 
Pension: Employer will pay $4.48 per hour (previously $4 per hour) to sheet metal workers health benefit fund. 
Bereavement leave: 3 days for death in immediate family (spouse, child, parent, guardian, sibling, grandchild, grandparent, any others as stated in section 53 of Employment Standards Act).
Mileage: $0.54 per kilometre when employee uses own vehicle as means of transportation to, from or between jobs.

Editor’s notes: Apprenticeship and training fund: Employer will pay $0.3 per hour to sheet metal apprenticeship and training fund. Employer will pay $1 per hour to sheet metal industry training board. Local 280 promotion fund: Employer will deduct from each employee $0.03 per hour to Local 280 Promotion Fund. Out-of-town jobs: All new employees required on out-of-town jobs will receive fare equivalent to costs of transportation that would place them on site in shortest period of time, plus $30 cab fare from home to public transportation. Only modes of transportation are regular air fares, ferry fares, bus fares or combination of above. When there are no camp accommodations, employer will pay: $145 per day (previously $140 per day) for living-out allowance or first-class room plus $69 per day. Local 280 council fund: Employer will deduct from each Employee $0.12 per hour and remit to Local 280 Council Fund.
