Borea Construction employees in Calgary ratify first contract

New retirement package, wage and premiums hikes in agreement: CLAC

Employees of Borea Construction in Calgary voted in favour of ratifying their first collective agreement on Oct. 17.

The 87 employees are members of Construction Workers Union, CLAC Local 63.

The 2.5-year agreement provides wage increases across the board ranging between 2.2 to 8.8 per cent and increased premiums and overtime benefits. It also includes the introduction of a six per cent retirement package and health and welfare benefits as well as improvements to travel and living-out allowances, says the union.

“The bargaining committee, which includes two employees from Borea, did a great job” says Randy Klassen, CLAC Calgary regional director. “Their insights and determination contributed to the positive gains and overwhelming vote in favour of ratifying the agreement by the membership.”

Borea Construction specializes in building wind and solar farms and has built more than 40 renewable energy projects across Canada.
