Nisichawayasihk home workers in Nelson House, Man. ratify new agreement

Members of Nisichawayasihk personal care home in Nelson House, Man., who are represented by the Manitoba Government and General Employees’ Union (MGEU), Local 367, ratified a new five-year collective agreement on Oct. 21.

Last February, employees voted in favour of potential strike action due to the fact they make significantly less than workers at other Manitoba care homes even though they have the same training and job descriptions, says the union.

The new agreement will bring wages closer to parity with these other workers and also includes increases to weekend shift premiums as well as a wage re-opener provision should the employer receive the required funding to further reduce the wage gap, says MGEU.
