Canada’s construction union wage rate index unchanged in July

Composite index increased 1.4 per cent over the year

Canada’s Construction Union Wage Rate Index remained unchanged in July compared with June, according to Statistics Canada. June's rate also remained unchanged over May’s index.

July’s composite index increased by 1.4 per cent compared with July 2010. Last month, the composite index also increased 1.4 per cent over the year prior.

In May, the most recent month for which numbers are available, the average hourly wage rate for construction workers was $27.19.

The Construction Union Wage Rate Index series measure monthly changes over time in the collective agreement hourly rates, where they exist, for 16 trades engaged in building construction in 22 metropolitan areas.
