Name for CAW-CEP merger will be unveiled Thursday

New union will represent more than 300,000 workers

The new name and logo for the merger of the Canadian Auto Workers (CAW) and the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers (CEP) will be unveiled on Thursday.

The wraps will be taken off the new organization at 11 a.m. The new union’s founding convention is taking place on Labour Day weekend in Toronto from Aug. 30 to Sept. 1, 2013.

The CAW-CEP merger will form a new union that will represent more than 300,000 workers across Canada in more than 20 different economic sectors.

The launch of the new union's name and logo comes one year and a half after discussions and consultations on the New Union Project began. The new name and logo will be voted on by the National Executive Boards of both CAW and CEP during meetings taking place May 28-29.
